About Lora Mercado
My photography depicts how I am drawn to the nostalgia of the past. I find beauty and fascination in historic cemeteries. There are so many stories buried under the ornate graves of long ago. With each photo I take, I strive to evoke feelings of wonder, as to who the graves belonged to and how did they live and die. I have a large collection of black and white cemetery photos from my region that are quite mysterious and thought provoking. My collection from the Veteran’s Memorial is also one that gives the viewer a sense of feeling. One night a chinese sage had a dream in which he was a butterfly fluttering over meadows and gardens. When he woke up, he sat at the edge of his bed and asked himself, "Am I a human who just dreamed he was butterfly or am I a butterfly who is now dreaming he's a human? This question reminded me of a statement by Edgar Alan Poe : "ALL THAT WE ARE OR SEEM TO BE IS A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM." I'm adding this lovely image to my list of favorites.
